Job Title:  Animal Services Senior Manager

Reports to: Executive Director

Scope of Position: The Animal Services Senior Manager position is responsible for the overall animal services operations of the organization.  The position is a strong liaison between the Executive Director, department leaders, staff, members, volunteers and the community.  This is a full-time position.

Mission Objective:  The Animal Services Senior Manager position must believe, promote, and encourage the mission of the OAHS organization as well as the lifesaving philosophy and continually strive to improve the quality of life for animals and our community.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic planning, initiative and project management

  1. In conjunction with the Executive Director, assists with developing the annual performance goals and ensures the operational tactics support achievement of those.

Promotion of Culture and Change Management

  1. Fosters animal and community centered environment focused on quality, safety and staff/adopter satisfaction.
  2. Participates in process improvement and change management efforts and teams.

Human Resources/Team building/Leadership

  1. Hires, evaluates, promotes and dismisses all key animal services personnel.
  2. Leads the annual performance evaluations and quarterly check ins for direct reports.
  3. Provides direct supervision to the shelter operations management team and the caregiving team.
  4. Works with the Executive Director and the Staff Veterinarian to ensure the standards and policies are followed.
  5. Directs, supervises and instructs personnel in the wellbeing and humane treatment of animals.
  6. Plans and facilitates meetings as necessary.
  7. Ensures an open-door policy for staff concerns, suggestions and/or complaints.

Representation of Agency

  1. Along with the Executive Director, serves as a representative and spokesperson in promoting OAHS’s mission and objectives.
  2. Maintains cooperative partnerships and contracts with government officials, agencies, organizations and media.
  3. Handles special problems with private citizens.

Management of Finances

  1. Ensures efficient use of resources.

Management of Programs / Overall Operations

  1. Reviews and evaluates shelter programs on a regular basis.
  2. Ensures the smooth functioning of animal services operations.
  3. Along with the Executive Director, participates in the development of programs which will meet the principles and objectives of the OAHS’s policies and mission.
  4. Works with the operational leaders and key personnel to establish short and long term goals.

Other Responsibilities

  1. Models good customer service behavior.
  2. Treats all leaders and staff respectfully and requires the same of other managers.
  3. Attends workshops, seminars, and participates on committees and other task force groups for the advancement of the Society and its goals.
  4. Continually observes conditions within the organization and makes suggestions and recommendations for change or improvements to the Executive Director.
  5. Serves as a working leader in animal areas as well as intake and adoption.
  6. In conjunction with the Executive Director, makes final decisions in regard to euthanasia or when to utilize external care facility.

Qualifications:

  • Animal handling experience in a shelter or clinic setting
  • Veterinary-related medical experience administering medications and treatments
  • Experience leading teams
  • EBI certified or willing to complete the certification
  • High school diploma
  • Driver’s license with clean driving record
