Where did you get this pet?

He lived as a community cat in our old neighborhood where we took him in during October 2025, before the winter weather got to be too dangerous for an outdoor kitty. We aren’t sure if he was previously socialized to human interaction, though he seemed to hang around our backyard eagerly waiting for us to bring him food and give him pets.

Things pet likes:

Davey loves climbing, jumping, running, chasing and scratching. He requires high perching areas, scratching posts, and lots of playtime. His favorite game is catching, swatting, and chasing balled up notebook paper. Davey loves every toy we’ve tried, including feather toys, string toys, chew toys, and tunnels. He loves food and treats, and is not picky about it– we heard he used to raid our old neighbor’s trash can when he was still a stray.

Things pet doesn’t like:

Davey doesn’t like loud noises, car rides, being picked up (seriously, he really hates this and he is NOT afraid to show you with his claws and teeth), having his belly or feet touched, getting wet, other cats, or unsolicited petting. He can be a little moody, going from enjoying pets to being over it rather quickly, so he would benefit from someone who really understands the body language of cats.

Positive qualities pet has:

Davey is a big lover when he wants to be pet, to the point that he becomes a puddle of fur and drool. He is a cat though, so it is a modest amount of drool. He’s a very handsome boy who loves to talk (but good luck taking photos or video because he is blacker than black, and only sits still when he’s napping). He is insanely curious, active, and incredibly strong. We think he would make an amazing companion for someone who wants a working cat or just someone who loves to play with their animals (we joke that he’s more like a dog than a cat). He is house trained, neutered, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on shots/has been treated for worms. He’s been to the vet recently (April 2026) and was given a 100% clean bill of health.

Reason for rehoming pet

We have an old lady cat who is friendly toward Davey (through a pet gate), but Davey does not like having another cat in the house. He is violent toward her and seemingly obsessed with getting to her. We have to keep them separated by gates and doors for both of their safety. Unfortunately, Davey broke through the barriers and attacked our old lady cat. This resulted in our old lady being injured, and one of us being bitten bad enough to need an emergency visit. We have been unable to change his attitude toward her through the recommended methods, and fear he will attack again given the opportunity. We feel that keeping them in the same house is not fair to either cat, and is potentially dangerous for everyone.

Kind of home pet needs

Davey needs a home without any other cats. He would benefit from time outside, or living on a farm to be a mouser. He seems to want to be an independent indoor/outdoor cat and come visit people when he wishes. We believe that he’s come to enjoy the safety of having a warm, loving home but that he is still very much in touch with his instinctual, wild self from his days on the streets.
