Reason for rehoming pet

We are looking to rehome our sweet 6-year-old Chihuahua-Terrier mix, Mack. He is neutered and up-to-date on rabies and distemper. We adopted him when our household had three children; now only one is at home. He also lives with two cat brothers—one of whom enjoys chasing him (and Mack happily plays along, thinking he’s one of them!).
Mack loves tiny tennis balls, especially chewing the fuzz off, and will roll on his back with his paws up to play. He’s a smart, house-trained dog who enjoys snuggling and being close to his people. He does best with very durable (“gorilla” tough) toys, as he tends to shred anything less sturdy. He currently lives in a fully fenced yard where he enjoys his zoomies, and after a day of play or a walk, he settles in and sleeps quietly in his crate.
Mack does have anxiety, especially in new situations or around unfamiliar people. When nervous, he may bark for extended periods and shake. Due to fear-based reactions, he has bitten on four occasions, including once at the veterinarian. Under veterinary guidance, he has been on anti-anxiety medication for over a year, though we have not seen significant improvement.
Because of his anxiety, we believe Mack would do best in a calm, stable home with minimal new people or changes—ideally with an experienced dog owner who understands fearful or reactive dogs. With the right environment, we truly believe he can be happier and more at ease.
With upcoming changes in our family, we feel it’s in Mack’s best interest to find a home better suited to his needs.
If you have a quiet, understanding home and are interested in learning more about Mack, please reach out.
