Family Volunteer Partnership

The Oshkosh Area Humane Society is excited to announce a pilot volunteer program allowing children ages 12–15 years of age to volunteer at the shelter with a parent/ guardian.(Guardians must be 18 years of age or older.) Initially the program will accept a maximum of 10 volunteer teams (one parent/guardian and one child) to get a feel for how the program will run. Re-evaluation of the program will be on going.

Both the child and parent/guardian are required to attend orientation and behavioral classes together, in order to volunteer with either the cats or dogs. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at cari@oahs.org before attending a volunteer orientation meeting. Volunteer partners are asked to make a commitment of a minimum of 8 hours per month for a 3 month period. Children must be under the direct supervision of their parent/guardian at all times while volunteering. Volunteering is done during the humane society’s public hours. We ask if you are unable to fulfill your commitment, you will notify the volunteer coordinator, so that another family can join.

Enrollment into the trial volunteer program is on a first come, first served basis. There will be no waiting list. Availability for future enrollment will be posted on the OAHS web site. Please contact Rachel for more information or to obtain the special enrollment form at 920-303-3166 or rachel@oahs.org.
