Behavioral Services Manager: Full-time Position

This staff member is responsible for supporting the behavioral needs of all species of animals in the care of the Oshkosh Area Humane Society by assessing the needs for behavioral intervention, developing and implementing behavioral modification programing, ensuring housing conditions allow animals to exhibit species-typical behavior, and acting as an educational resource to staff, volunteers and community members. The BSM will act in accordance with the directives and guidelines established by the President and the Board of Directors to provide a clean, healthy, and humane environment for the animal residents while supporting each animal’s right to The Five Freedoms. Please note the Oshkosh Area Humane Society does not condone use of aversives/punishment for behavioral modification.  Only candidates using positive-Anireinforcement-based methodologies will be considered.

This is a salaried position, requiring the following:

  • Relevant college degree or certificate in professional dog training or behavioral consulting in accordance with positive reinforcement-based methods.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a humane society desired
  • Ability to care for and handle animals required
  • Valid driver’s license

Animal Caregiver: Full-time position up to 40 hours per week (must be at least 18 years old)

If you love animals and want to help provide compassionate care to every animal that comes through our doors, our Caregiver position might be the right fit for you!  

Duties include:  Checking in all animals, administering vaccinations, weighing animals, recording medical status and any current issues, entering animal data in Petpoint software, dosing and administering medication, and other duties as needed. 

Applicants must be willing to work at least 2 weekend shifts a month.  Shifts are typically 4-8 hours in length between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm Mon-Fri and between 8 am and 5 pm Sat/Sun.  

This is an hourly position, requiring the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with handling dogs and cats
  • Comfortable working with animals of all sizes. 
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Mature judgement and the ability to interact with the public, shelter staff, and volunteers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Professional appearance and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to learn and perform computer database entry and reports.
  • Clinic/animal handling experience preferred

 *Dog Enrichment Team Member*: Excellent part-time opportunity for retirees, students, those looking for extra income, etc. 

Part-Time/Hourly Position 12 - 25 hrs/wk    (must be at least 18 years old)

Must be able to work a minimum of three shifts per week, including three weekend shifts a month  

Wage: Starting at $12/hr, may be negotiable depending on experience

Dogs at OAHS are walked at least twice daily for their health and wellbeing. Interested parties must have experience with handling dogs of all sizes , strengths and activity levels - particularly medium-to larger-size active dogs.  Also must be willing to do necessary kennel cleaning and feeding.  Dog behavior and handling training will be provided.  Applicants must be capable of working independently, pay attention to detail and work efficiently within time constraints. Employees typically are assigned one shift per workday - either morning or afternoon. 

Weekday shifts (Mon - Fri): 8 am - 12 pm and 3 pm - 6 pm.  We are currently in need of morning shift employees: 8 am - 12 pm. 

Weekend shifts are Saturday 7 am - 11 am and 2 pm - 5 pm; and Sunday 8 am - 12 pm and 2 pm - 5 pm.
